IJCAI-17 Robotics Showcase - Expressions of Interest

We are pleased to present the call for expressions of interest in the IJCAI 2017 Robotics Showcase. The Robotics Showcase is aimed at raising awareness of the state-of-the-art and highlighting the current focus of research and development in the use of artificial intelligence for robotics. The Robotics Showcase will run alongside the IJCAI 2017 conference technical program (August 19-25, 2017, in Melbourne, Australia).

With robotics being a central focus of artificial intelligence research and development and with the current high level of interest in both artificial intelligence and robotics among the wider community, the Robotics Showcase provides an outstanding opportunity for researchers, universities, research organisations and industry to place their research and development on the world stage. As part of the showcase we will be seeking to attract extensive attention from international media to inform the public as to directions of research and development in artificial intelligence and robotics.

At present we are seeking expressions of interest for the following robot related activities:

  • Demonstrations and exhibits by universities and research organisations
  • Industry exhibits
  • Proposals for robot competitions
  • Demonstration videos programme (see the call for videos in the IJCAI 2017 Video Competition)

Key dates are as follows:

  • Submission of expressions of interest: January 30, 2017.
  • Notification of acceptance: February 27, 2017.

In keeping with the robotics exhibitions at past IJCAI's expressions of interest will be evaluated on the following basis:

  • Innovation - what new value or potential impact for artificial intelligence applied to robotics is to be demonstrated.
  • Significance - what is the potential impact of the AI/Robotics research and development.
  • Technical Quality - how deep are the insights demonstrated by the AI/Robotics.
  • Understandability - quality of the demonstration presentation to a technical and non-technical audience.

Along with this information, expressions of interest should also include details of any additional resources required, including amount of space, power, etc. to determine whether the proposed activities can be accommodated at the conference venue. Industry exhibits will incur a cost and pricing is currently being negotiated with the venue.

Expressions of interest. Detailed submission information will be provided in the second call. Note that attending the IJCAI conference is not required. For further information about participation in the exhibition, please contact Maurice Pagnucco (morri@cse.unsw.edu.au)
